Downsizing doesn't mean downgrading. According to The New York Times, “people of all income levels are buying small cars to pinch pennies at the gas pump, but they are not scrimping on [amenities]. Instead, they are spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on options, like heated leather seats and high-end entertainment systems, usually found in luxury cars.” With gas at it’s highest, consumers are doing what they can to ditch their oversized SUVs, even if the cost of the vehicle surpasses the value of good gas mileage. Now is a great time for dealers to promote their smaller, fuel-efficient cars and luxurious amenities.
