May is National Bike Month. The League of American Cyclists established National Bike Month to help encourage everyone to start cycling. According to the League of American Bicyclists, approximately 60 million U.S. citizens use bicycles for transportation or recreation at least once a year, which is about one quarter of all U.S. households.
Ad/Promotion Ideas:
• Designate a specific area in the classifieds for people who are selling bicycles or bicycle accessories.
• Work with car dealers to promote vehicles with bike racks or space inside.
• Highlight employers with bike-friendly locations, policies, bike racks, etc., in their recruitment ads.
• Work with real estate agents to promote houses with easy access to bike paths or with built-in bike racks.
• Provide a list of all the local events that bike lovers can attend this month.
• Eighteen million bicycles were sold in 2006, according to the National Bike Dealers Association. Create a list of the top-selling bicycles and provide reviews of them.
• According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, 725 cyclists were killed in 2004. Provide a list of safety tips to use while bicycling.
